BLOG UPDATE: Hawaii Chocolate Festival This Saturday

New Farmers Markets on Oahu

I have previously blogged about the sorry state of the Kapiolani Community College Farmer's Market, primarily due to the busloads of tourists to whom the market now caters.  Tons of prepared food booths, homemade jams, lemonade, etc. but very little left in produce.  And the stuff is vastly overpriced compared to Chinatown in Honolulu.  I mean even the prepared food - you'd do better, much better on one of our many great food trucks.  I mean, really, $1.50 per slice for a single small slice of fried green tomato?

A few of the other markets have kept to the plan of a farmer's market and there are a few of the alternative farmer's markets forund elsewhere. Sonny called yesterday and said there are two new farmers markets on Oahu.  One in Honolulu at the Honolulu Community College, open Saturdays 4pm to 8pm.  For those of you who have action packed Saturdays this is a good option.

In Ewa there is a new market at Ewa Beach Elementary school, on Sunday's from 9am to 1pm.  Now the Leeward and Central folks from Kapolei, Mililani, Ewa Beach and  Waianae don't have to drive back into Honolulu town to get good veggies!

Let me know what you think of the new markets and I may drive out from Kailua and the Windward side of Oahu to check them out.
