Outlook in partly sunny for jobs
Hawaii's work force is expected to add jobs in 2012 in one of the business sectors that has struggled the most.
The construction industry that has fought to recover from the recession, will see some recovery this year according to the Dept. of Labor and Industrial Relations.
Job growth is also forecast for the education, food service and hospitality areas the department said. It earlier had projected growth in health services, but that was before Hawaii Medical Center closed its two Oahu hospitals and laying off 990 employees.
The state also projects more that 5% job growth in the transportation, warehousing and administrative areas.
Minimum could become an issue as well. State Rep. Karl Rhoads, chairman of the House Committee on Labor and Public Employment, said he plans to introduce a bill to raise the minimum wage, but would not say how much.
So it will be a wait and see 2012!
